Features
What are Cryocoolers?
Cryocoolers lower the temperature of objects using adiabatic expansion of a refrigerant (helium). There are several types, which vary by cooling cycle and operating principle.
GM Cryocoolers
These Cryocoolers feature a mechanical drive in which the cooling agent (heat storage material) moves back and forth inside a cylinder to repeat adiabatic expansion of the refrigerant (helium) to generate a chill.
These systems, which feature our original sealing mechanism, were the world's first cryocoolers to reliably reach 4K (-270°C) and can be installed in any orientation.
- 1Highest global delivery record of 4K Cryocoolers
- 2Orientation free (can be installed in any direction)
- 3Temperature stability and long-term reliability at 4K
Pulse Tube Cryocoolers
Unlike mechanically-driven GM Cryocoolers, Pulse Tube Cryocoolers are characterized by lower vibration during operation. This is due to the fact that the cooling agent is fixed and does not move back and forth inside the cylinder. Because of this, there are no moving parts in the low-temperature areas, leading to a longer product life.
Pulse Tube Cryocoolers are mainly used in sensitive measurement and analytical applications where vibration should be avoided.
- 1Low vibration
- 2Long life
- 3Optional separated valve unit
GM-JT Cryocoolers
These 4K Cryocoolers are based on our two-stage GM Cryocoolers with the addition of a Joule-Thomson (JT) expansion. This expansion further lowers the temperature of the refrigerant (helium) and liquefies it within the cryocooler.
In JT expansion, there is no pressure pulsation in the freezing areas. Since the freezing capability comes from the latent heat of the refrigerant in its liquid phase (liquid helium), GM-JT Cryocoolers excel in temperature-stabilizing performance and offer superior efficiency compared with GM and Pulse Tube Cryocoolers.
SHI is the only cryocooler manufacturer developing GM-JT Cryocoolers.
- 1Maximum capacity at 4K
- 2Long-term temperature-stabilizing performance
- 3Low electric power consumption
Solvay Cryocoolers
Solvay Cryocoolers have the same chill generation principles as mechanical GM Cryocoolers. However, the cooling agent (heat storage material) moves back and forth with gas pressure rather than with motor and crank mechanisms. The resulting design is simple, light and compact, making installation easy.
- 1Extensive temperature lineup above 4K (6.5K/10K/20K/77K)
- 2Wide range of compatible compressor options
- 3Diverse cooling capabilities (from small to large models)
Applications
- GM Cryocoolers
- GM Cryocoolers are orientation free and utilized in applications where ultra-low temperatures of 4K are required, including astronomical observatories like the Subaru and ALMA telescopes, and superconducting magnets for MRI systems.
- Pulse Tube Cryocoolers
- Due to their comparatively low vibration, Pulse Tube Cryocoolers are used in applications like NMR magnets and dilution refrigerator precooling. Models with a separated valve unit are available for applications where vibration noise particularly should be avoided.
- GM-JT Cryocoolers
- These are used primarily in superconductive magnets for accelerators because of their superior efficiency, and for the cooling of sensors that must be kept away from thermal noise due to low temperature fluctuations.
- Solvay Cryocoolers
- With a product lineup featuring diverse temperature ranges and superior cooling capabilities, these products are used in a wide range of applications. Since their release in 1968, they have demonstrated excellent performance and w퍼스트 카지노he trust of customers around the world.
